#WeekendCoffeeShare: Should Celebrities Be The Leaders For America's Social Injustice Problems?
Hello everyone it's the weekend and you know what that means. Typically I would be sitting here drinking a few cups of coffee with you... but I have pizza right now, so feel free to do what you want (haha). I wouldn't recommend coffee and pizza together, but hey... if it works for you, then that's cool!
In America we are watching unfortunate situations unfold right before our eyes (and even in the cities we live in). Every time I get a notification from a friend or a news outlet that I follow, I look for positive news. However, we don't live in a rainbow and unicorn society, and criminals/murderers will always exist. Nonetheless, as we continue to see new situations all around the country threaten the lives of others on a daily basis one thing has become all too common as well.
The outcry and peaceful protests of the general population are well recognized and respected in my opinion. But should we really expect for celebrities to step out as our speakers just because of their popularity?
Me personally, I do not think that it is fair to basically hold your support from those individuals ransom if they do not speak on what you want. Would it be nice if celebrities publicly expressed their opinions about the social injustice situations going on? Of course! Are they obligated to do so just because of the color of their skin and the victims being the same/similar? Absolutely not!
As a general population, don't become so selfish and entitled that if a celebrity does not do what you want, then you would stop supporting them. Do not think that because they make/earn more money than the average household that they should put their jobs on the line for your agenda. Remember, they have families and bills just like we all do. All because they have an ample amount of money does not mean that the ratio of their bills are significantly lower.
Being rich financially does not translate to having tons of money to throw around. In the same manner that no one can force you to spend your money in a way that you would not like to is the same respect you should give to celebrities. The same goes for voicing their opinions about something if they do not want to.
There are a plethora of individuals complaining that celebrities are obligated be the leaders they want. Instead of trying to force someone into a position and responsibility that they do not want to be a part of (at least publicly) how about you become the leader you desire? It is not the duty of celebrities to take care or speak the words of the average American citizen if they do not want to.
Those are my personal thoughts about the situation we all see at hand right now. What do you think about it? Do you think celebrities are obligated to speak out on social injustice issues just because of their status/wealth? Are you going to withhold your support from your favorite celebrity if they do not publicly speak out about social injustice situations?
Hopefully you have finished your coffee/pizza by now. If not, just know that by the time you are finished reading this, I will be making another pot of coffee!
