The Last of Us 2… 2016 Anticipation!
Happy New Year! Last year Naughty Dog kind of let us all know that The Last of Us 2 may be in the works. This all happened during a live stream that was focusing on the Nathan Drake Collection. Nolan North who is the voice actor for David in the game kind of let us in a little bit. The potential for a chapter two was in the works and kept under tightly sealed lips.
In my opinion, this is by far the most anticipated sequel of the year. For those that don’t know of The Last of Us, it is an action-adventure survival horror video game. The story is based around being an apocalyptic scenario. Joel (who is one of the main characters) is one of the few survivors left fighting for his life. Unfortunately, he lost a few family members throughout the process. I won’t say too many details for anyone who have not played the game or watched the gameplay/movie yet. Along the way Ellie, a young teenage girl comes into the picture as the other main character.
IGN rated the game 10/10 and Metacritic also gave it a perfect 5/5 score.
Me personally, I have always loved games that are story driven such as the Resident Evil series. The Last of Us is the closest genre-defining game to post apocalyptic storylines since Resident Evil. The story ended with Joel making a very tough decision to save Ellie. At the end, Ellie opened up with a heartfelt story of her past to Joel. A part of her was looking for closure and the other half only wanted Joel to tell her the truth about ally/foe group called the Fireflies.
Anyone who played the game and/or watched the movie just like me knows that the story was not complete. It ended on a cliffhanger that few games are possible to do flawlessly. For almost 3 years since its original release, fans and avid followers of the story have constantly speculated what happens next. Will a cure ever be found for the virus that took so many lives of innocent people? Did the Fireflies get wiped out completely?
Hopefully Naughty Dog will not keep us in a room full of rumors and assumptions anymore. A sneak peak, a confirmation without a sneak peak would ease a lot of our minds. I think that a release date exactly 3 years since its birth (which will be in June 2016) is highly possible.
What do you all think? Should we expect a surprise announcement from Naughty Dog this year? If a sequel does happen, how will the relationship between Joel and Ellie play out?
